
Continuing with its support of junior golf in the North Country, Maplewood Golf Club in Bethlehem proudly announces its sixth year of sponsorship of the North Country Junior Golf League (formerly the NHPGA Junior Tour North). 2011 marks the 18th season for the League, our region's only competitive outlet for advanced junior players. We have a six-tournament schedule designed to prepare players for the fall interscholastic golf season. There are a few changes for the upcoming season and they are outlined below.
The league will be divided into two divisions with boys and girls playing in the same divisions. Division 1 will be for players entering 9th grade to entering 12th grade and Division 2 will be for players entering 6th grade to entering 8th grade. All players must have a reasonably competitive background meaning that they can play 9 holes in no more than 2:15 and have a basic understanding of the rules of golf. All players must sign the League Code of Conduct regarding rules, etiquette and honest play. All players are expected to follow the League dress code of golf shirts with collars, no denim and no metal spikes.
During the 2011 season, play will be changed back to an 18-hole format for Division 1 groupings, while Division 2 will play 9-holes each week. The Junior Tour will start July 7th, 2011 and events will be held every Thursday through August 11th, 2011. Each week players will be awarded points and a champion will be decided on August 11th at the year end event at The Maplewood.
High school coaches who have current or future players participating in an event will be allowed to coach during play if they so choose. Coaches will only be allowed to work with those players who are currently enrolled at or will be enrolled at the school where they are hired to be the varsity golf coach. The coaches will be the only people allowed to assist players during an event.
There is a one-time per season League Membership Fee of $20.00. The League Membership Fee must be paid regardless of how many events are played. There is a weekly tournament entry fee of $5.00. All players must check in prior to the first tee time each week (the time listed on the schedule). There will be a sign up sheet each week for the next week's event. Pre-registration is not necessary but is recommended so that we can let each facility know roughly how many players will be playing so they can plan accordingly.
